Transform Materials were founded in 2014 by Dr David Soane with the aim of using microwave plasma technology to valorise methane, and they now have a commercially ready process which converts methane to high-purity hydrogen ready to contribute to the growing global hydrogen economy. The intrinsically safe process generates no CO2 or other waste during the conversion as the challenge of production of low value carbon solids has been solved, making the Transform Materials process unique compared to alternative methane-hydrogen plasma/pyrolysis processes. The second, carbon-based product from the TM process is valuable, high-purity acetylene which finds uses in a very wide range of applications as a chemical feedstock for PVC, BDO, chloroprene, vitamins… and others. Transform Materials have already agreed a licence with DSM Nutritional Products and have much interest in their technology globally, as they build a pipeline of prospective large-scale projects in a wide range of industries.
