Brian Murrell

Brian serves as Deloitte’s Global Risk Advisory’s Power & Utilities (P&U) sector leader and Energy, Resources & Industrials (ER&I) Digital Risk Transformation lead. He has over 20 years experience working with power and natural gas utilities in addressing financial accounting, reporting and related internal controls challenges. He has supported both audit and non-audit clients, providing him with both perspectives in considering the practical challenges faced by utility finance and controllership functions, including internal controls design and implementation under Sarbanes-Oxley rules, testing operating effectiveness of internal controls, helping organizations remediate any identified internal controls issues.
In his digital risk role, he is working with companies as they undertake digital transformation efforts to further streamline and automate finance and controllership to meet future demands. He helps clients with strategy and implementation of digital core, process automation (including Robotics Process Automation), and use of data analytics and presentation tools to identify and present data-driven insights, as well as establishing effective governance structures and monitoring and managing risks associated with changing processes and new technologies.
Brian additionally has extensive commodity transacting experience, helping integrated energy clients manage commodity risk management issues through consultative projects and assurance services.
