David Phillips is HSBC’s Head of Equity Research for Developed Europe, based in London. He re-joined HSBC in 2016 as the Global Head of Resources and Energy Equity Research, based in New York, after working as Head of Industry and Investor Relations for a major oilfield services company. Before moving over to the oil industry in 2015 David had been an equity analyst at HSBC in London for nine years, latterly as Co-Head of Global Oil and Gas Equity Research. He has been an investment analyst since 1998, initially covering European chemicals and moving to the oil and gas sector in 2006. David earned a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Cambridge.
