Dr Mamma Sawaneh

Mamma Sawaneh is a young and energetic man who loves teaching, research and participating in community development initiatives. He is currently a senior lecturer at The University of The Gambia and a Scientific Coordinator for West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land use (WASCAL). His main research interests are but not limited to productivity and efficiency studies, sustainable agriculture, energy economics, climate change, food security and development economics. He has a formidable professional background in collaborations, capacity-building, training & teaching. He obtained a PhD in Economics and Climate change at the University of Cheikh Anta Diop in Senegal, a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics and Bachelor’s degree in General Agriculture (Cum laude). Mamma successfully trained and supervised a number of teachers, extension agents and farmer associations in the length and breadth of the Gambia by providing strategic, technical and managerial guidance. These have positively impacted on the lives of school children and small farmers’ productivity and income. He also actively served in a number of committees of many professional associations at national and international level. Experienced in working in multicultural and interdisciplinary teams; and recognized for high teamwork with great leadership skills and strong record of success with challenging projects. He successfully participated in some consulting assignments in the Gambia having strong oral and written communication skills with strong computer and coordination skills.
