
Gilbert Kamuntu
Chief Commercial Officer, Uganda National Oil Company
Gilbert was part of a team of negotiators that successfully secured a USD $8 billion Final Investment Decision for the Tilenga and Kingfisher Development, as well as the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP). Currently serving as a Board Director representing UNOC on the EACOP Board of Directors, Gilbert participates in the strategic management of this key regional infrastructure.
In his role at UNOC as the Chief Commercial Officer, Gilbert fosters Commercial Excellence and Leadership within the organization and wider government decision making.
Gilbert initiated his career with Shell as a refinery economist at Stanlow Refinery in North-West England, eventually transitioning to Shell’s Strategy, Mergers, and Acquisitions division. His international experience extends to Tullow Oil plc, where he contributed significantly to the Uganda and Kenya Upstream Developments, operating from London, Nairobi, and Kampala.
Educationally, Gilbert holds a Bachelor’s degree (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering from Nottingham University, an MSc (Distinction) in Energy Studies with a specialization in Energy Finance from Dundee University, and an MBA (Merit) from the University of British Columbia. His MSc thesis delved into the vulnerabilities of crude oil benchmarks in financial derivatives. Additionally, he has honed his skills through various courses in project and infrastructure finance, corporate strategy, and leadership at esteemed institutions such as Manchester Business School and London Business School.
He will be speaking at the 2024 World Energy Capital Assembly at the panel “Africa in Transition”.
