Jonathan Evans
VP Africa New Ventures, Upstream
Following a post-doc at Strasbourg University in France, Jonathan joined BP in 1990 and spent ten years in technical geoscience roles within BP’s Exploration & Production businesses before moving to work in M&A and BP’s Strategy team. In 2003 he became Commercial Director for the Grangemouth Refining and Petrochemicals Complex in Scotland.
Between 2005-2009, Jonathan led BP’s Exploration businesses in India and Pakistan and then became General Manager for Oman with responsibility for the Khazzan tight gas project, now one of BP’s most important projects. In 2012 Jonathan was appointed BP’s VP for Global Access. In this role he was responsible for all new opportunities for BP Exploration covering both conventional exploration and unconventional resources. Following an assignment in BP’s Executive Office in London, he moved to become VP Exploration – Middle East in April 2016 and took up his current role as VP Africa New Ventures in February 2018. In this role Jonathan is responsible for managing BP’s interests in Madagascar, Sao Tome & Principe and Cote d’Ivoire.
