
Melissa Brown
Director, Energy Finance Studies, Asia, Institute For Energy Economics and Financial Analysis
Melissa Brown is a Director with the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis focused on Asian energy and power market research. She works with a team of eight analysts covering Asia’s energy growth markets as well as trends in sustainable finance. In Asia since 1988, she analyzed Asian investments for 15 years as a sell-side equity analyst at Barclays and JPMorgan, and as a managing director of research at Citigroup. During that period, she covered the Asian power sector for six years. She led a range of first generation Asian ESG research initiatives while serving as the executive director of ASrIA including collaborations with the Carbon Disclosure Project. After moving into private investment, she was a partner at IDFC Capital, where she invested in emerging market private equity funds. Ms. Brown is a member of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission Takeovers Panel and the HKEX Listing Review Committee. She was previously a member of the UN PRI Advisory Council and a Director of Sustainalytics, a global ESG research provider, until its sale to Morningstar in 2020.
