Peter Purkl
Director, Team Head Power, Renewables and Water, KfW iPex Bank
Peter Purkl is Director with global responsibility for KfW IPEX Bank GmbH’s structuring and originating activities in the thermal power (incl. solar thermal and energy from waste) and water desalination sectors: The bank’s lending activities concentrate on structured, export and project finance to support the German and European industry worldwide.
Some very recent landmark transaction of the team include the lead arranging of EUR 3.6 bn export financing for 3×4800 MW combined cycle power plants in Egypt, the 1,500 MW Fadilih IPP in Saudi Arabia and the 3,000 MW Sohar and Ibri IPPs in Oman. Within Sub-Saharan Africa the team played leading roles in the project financing of the Azura IPP in Nigeria and various Eskom related export financings.
The team is currently mandated to undertake lead roles for a number of power financings (project and export finance) across the globe including two lead arranger mandates for integrated gas-to-power projects.
Peter joined KfW IPEX Bank GmbH in 2001 from Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein’s global debt unit where he was responsible for the arranging and advising on various internationally recognized project financings. Prior to joining Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein in 1999 Peter worked as a consulting engineer in the private power department of Lahmeyer International, a leading German engineering consulting company.
Peter holds a Master’s degree (mech. eng.) from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany and a Master’s degree (mech. eng.) from CornellUniversity, Ithaca, USA.
