Sheikh Nawaf Al-Sabah
CEO, Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC)
Shaikh Nawaf S. Al-Sabah was officially named the 8th Chief Executive Officer of Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (“KUFPEC”), the international upstream and wholly-owned subsidiary of the State-owned Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (“KPC”), in May 2013.
Prior to his appointment at KUFPEC, Shaikh Nawaf spent 14 years at KPC culminating an eight years as Deputy Managing Director and General Counsel of KPC, where he was the principal in-house counsel to KPC and an active member of KPC’s negotiating teams on all the corporation’s strategic projects. He was also a board member of KPC’s international downstream subsidiary Kuwait Petroleum International and of MEGlobal, an olefins Joint venture involving KPC’s petrochemicals subsidiary. From 2002 until 2004, Shaikh Nawaf was head of KPC’s Washington Office, responsible for development of downstream business opportunities and policy analysis in the United States.
Before joining KPC, Shaikh Nawaf worked as a corporate transactions attorney for Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, an international law firm based in Los Angeles.
Shaikh Nawaf, a graduate magna cum laude of Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School for Public and International Affairs in 1994, received his Doctor of Law (Juris Doctor) degree cum laude from Harvard University in 1997.
