Vicki Hollub leading Occidental on the ambitious path to acquiring Anadarko Petroleum for $58 billion was undoubtedly the biggest deal of 2019. The manner in which Hollub entered the race late, as an outsider and against Chevron left many sceptical. By the end, Chevron had retreated and Hollub had convinced the Anadarko board that her offer was the only one left to accept. She did not stop there however, then selling off Anadarko’s African assets to recoup a cool $8.8 billion. Vicki Hollub is an excellent and intrepid CEO.
