Logan Heffner, Partner and VP of Engineering, joins us from Rye Ridge Resources, a Denver-based minerals and royalties aggregator focused on the Uinta Basin. Despite the pandemic and the oil price war, there’s been a lot of development activity in the Uinta Basin where there is large private equity and public dollars being spent in the basin, Logan thinks the future is bright for the industry and that this is a good time to buy and invest. Listen here.
- Logan went to the School of Mines in Colorado and interned with Rosetta Resources and Goodrich Petroleum in Houston, both of which played a big part in guiding him toward becoming a reservoir engineer by trade.
- Logan worked with Great Western Petroleum until he met Reed Dixon, founder of Rye Ridge Resources.
- For people who are building teams in certain cities: There’s a lot of good talent out there, they just need to be identified according to the life aspect of their careers, where their families are, where they want to live.
- Rye Ridge Resources initially considered being multi-basin focused but later decided to focus on just the Uinta Basin after realizing it would be more advantageous for them with their skillset and experience.
- The Uinta Basin is reemerging with respect to horizontal drilling, especially with the recent well performance and production.
- The Uinta Basin’s depositional environment is Lacustrine, which is an ancient lake that can be oil and mineral-productive.
- Although oil from the Uinta basin has a strong and waxy component that requires refining, it spans a wide spectrum of end-uses which at times receives a premium.
- Despite the pandemic and the oil price war, there’s been a lot of development activity in the Uinta Basin where there is large private equity and public dollars being spent in the basin.
