How did you come to be in the energy industry?
Back in 2014, we designed the strategy to cover the oil & gas sector in Mexico considering the new opportunities given the Mexican Energy Reform.
What is your proudest work-related achievement to date?
To bring an Asset Based Finance solution for strategic PEMEX suppliers. This technology was applied in other countries where HSBC has presence. So far, financing are behaving adequately and help the companies to bring state of the art equipment.
Where do you see the greatest opportunity in the energy market?
Clearly in clean technologies; however, also in on-shore and off-shore oil and gas fields through reserve based lending structures.
Where do you see the greatest challenges?
Still in the legal framework and changing rapidly the mind-set from low to more adequate oil prices.
Who had inspired you to join or develop within the industry?
The opportunity given what is happening and expected to happen in the Local Market.
What was the wisest advice you received from a mentor?
You need to develop the plan for the different stages of the Energy Reform, keep calm and look forward to innovate.
What advice would you pass onto a recent graduate wishing to work in your line of business?
Be energetic and passionate, this is one of the most attractive industries to learn from.
If you could wave a magic wand over the global industry, what would you change and why?
Be more efficient and increase recovery rates. This will help to lower negative impacts.
What’s the one interesting fact about you that no one would suspect?
I am very superstitious.
How do you prefer to spend your spare time?
Movies and sports.
What is your hobby or an achievement outside of career?
Play soccer with friends.
What’s your favourite holiday destination?
Love the beach. Plan to live there in the future.
