OIL & GAS TECHNOLOGY
Technology has the potential to create enormous opportunity, but also presents several challenges. Digital disruption in the oil and gas space is no different. As many sectors worldwide have embarked on their own digital journeys, the energy sector has also started to explore the promise of digital enablement and Big Data.
Dr Alec Gruss is the head of digital solutions at the Dresser-Rand business, part of Siemens Power and Gas sees the advance of digitalisation as a step change in how oil and gas does business. “If you look at what digital disruption has meant in other industries or in our private lives, you can see the impact it can have,” he says. “If you compare that to the current state of the oil and gas industry you can see there is a long way to go. Things are being designed in software and yet datasheets are being sent in either paper form of PDFs of drawings; if revisions need to be made they need to be digitalised.
