by Tassos Vlassopoulos, HELPE Upstream, and Jack Ingram, Energy Council
Tassos, please tell the Energy Council network a little more about HELPE Upstream…
HELPE Upstream is the E&P business unit of Hellenic Petroleum, one of the biggest Energy Groups in SE Europe, offering an option value to a mainly Downstream group. After a decade of international operations in N. Africa (Libya and Egypt), HELPE Upstream is now focused on seven offshore licences (two of them operated) in Greece. Its partners include TotalEnergies, Exxon, Repsol and Energean.
You will be moderating the ‘Upstream Innovators Panel – The Reimagining of Upstream Capabilities – E&P as the Great Innovator’ plenary session at the World Energy Capital Assembly and innovation is central to the HELPE Upstream strategy/story – tell us a little bit about how you’re embedding this across the business?
In Exploration, better integrate different expertise (knowledge, perspectives) and use Cloud-base services to expedite analysis. Furthermore, simplify procurement policies, introduce cutting-edge digital tools in finance operations as well as standardize processes to reduce cycle time and costs.
What excites you most about this year’s World Energy Capital Assembly and what are you and the team looking to achieve at the show?
We would like to exchange views with other companies and contractors, explore potential collaboration and hear about the challenges and solutions in several E&P adjacencies.
How do you feel our industry will evolve and grow after the COVID era?
There has been a massive structural change, accelerating the moves towards the Energy Transition. Investment will continue in the E&P as it is needed to ensure a smooth transition with affordable energy pricing in the medium term. The large global players seem to focus on areas of high resource potential, preferably with existing infrastructure. Most European oil & gas companies are also investing in several forms of renewable energy and electrification, leveraging their financial strength and capabilities to manage large project operations.
HELPE Upstream are a premium sponsor of the Energy Council’s World Energy Capital Assembly, and Tassos Vlassopoulos will be the moderator of the ‘Upstream Innovators Panel – The Reimagining of Upstream Capabilities – E&P as the Great Innovator’.
