Energy Council Jakarta 2026: A Landmark Gathering for Indonesia’s Energy Future
The Energy Council
Published 24 April 2026
JAKARTA – On 22 April, the first-ever Energy Council Jakarta brought together a powerful cross section of Indonesia’s energy community, over 250 senior operators, investors, policymakers, technology leaders, and international partners, for a day of strategic dialogue on the country’s investment outlook, gas market evolution, and readiness for large scale CCS deployment.
Supported by SKK Migas, the forum marked a significant milestone in the Energy Council’s APAC Roadshow, underscoring Indonesia’s position as one of the region’s most important long term energy markets.
A Strong Turnout of Industry Leaders
Energy Council Jakarta welcomed representatives from:
• SKK Migas, Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources
• Pertamina Hulu Energi, PETRONAS Indonesia, Mubadala Energy
• Rystad Energy, JAPEX, Tenaris, Conrad Asia Energy
• Leading investors, legal advisors, and technology partners
• Regional operators and international energy companies exploring new opportunities in Indonesia
The diversity of attendance reflected the market’s growing momentum, and the appetite for collaboration across upstream, gas/LNG, CCS, and supply chain development.
Key Themes That Defined the Day
-
Investment Confidence & National Priorities
Opening remarks from the Directorate General of Oil & Gas and SKK Migas set a clear tone: Indonesia is committed to attracting long‑term investment, strengthening regulatory clarity, and accelerating project delivery.
-
Geopolitics & Market Outlook
Rystad Energy provided a sharp assessment of how global tensions, including the Iran conflict, are reshaping Southeast Asia’s energy landscape and influencing capital flows into Indonesia.
-
Entering Indonesia: What Investors Need to Know
A standout fireside chat with the Ministry, Pertamina Hulu Energi, and Mubadala Energy offered practical guidance on navigating regulation, forming local partnerships, and building sustainable long‑term value.
-
The Investment Case for Indonesia
Investors and operators examined fiscal frameworks, risk‑sharing mechanisms, and the opportunities emerging across upstream and gas/LNG, with a shared view that Indonesia remains one of APAC’s most compelling growth markets.
-
Gas Market Evolution & Domestic Demand
Badak LNG, SKK Migas, and Accenture explored the future of Indonesia’s gas market, LNG infrastructure, pricing mechanisms, and the role of gas in supporting industrial growth and the energy transition.
-
CCS Momentum Accelerating
Discussions with SKK Migas and the Indonesia CCS Centre highlighted the country’s ambition to become a regional CCS hub, supported by early pilot projects and evolving regulatory frameworks.
-
Vision 2030: Leadership, Talent & Innovation
The final panel looked ahead to Indonesia’s long‑term energy mix, the leadership required to drive transformation, and the talent needed to secure energy security and sustainability through 2030 and beyond.
A Community That Builds Together
The day concluded with a vibrant Networking Drinks Reception, where operators, investors, and policymakers continued conversations that will shape real projects in the months ahead.
The strength of the Energy Council community was clear: this is where relationships form, partnerships begin, and long‑term collaboration takes root.
See You at Energy Council Jakarta 2027 — and Next Stop: Singapore
Thank you to every speaker, partner, and delegate who contributed to an exceptional inaugural forum in Jakarta.

We can speak most confidently about Nigeria; and here the story has not really changed over the past few years. The prolific nature of the Niger Delta means that it remains a hugely attractive terrain for oil and gas investments. As the majors divest from the Niger Delta to concentrate on the deepwater and in some cases, the gas export business, there are plenty of opportunities to pick up geologically low risk and yet world class assets. Domestic gas utilization is also an area of growth, which is increasingly being taken up by indigenous players such as Seplat. Marginal field opportunities will also grow. read more
