PRESS RELEASE
Energy Council VIP Reception: Investment Opportunities in the Philippines Energy Sector
Published 29 August 2024
MANILA – AUGUST 2024 – On 23 August 2024, The Energy Council, in partnership with the Department of Energy Philippines and Rystad Energy successfully concluded its inaugural VIP Reception in Manila, the Pearl of the Orient. Despite the public holiday, the event gathered over 115 prominent industry leaders, government officials, and energy experts from across the region.
Driving Investment and Strategic Partnerships in the Energy Sector
The Energy Council VIP Reception in Manila provided a strategic platform for attendees to connect, share insights, and explore investment opportunities within the energy sector. The event featured:
- Keynote Addresses: Distinguished speakers from the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Energy (MENRE), the Department of Energy Philippines (DOE), the Renewable Energy Management Bureau, and Rystad Energy shared valuable insights on the current state of the Philippine upstream industry, the evolving landscape of LNG, gas, and renewable energies, and new opportunities in exploration financing and investment.
- Interactive Networking Sessions: Participants engaged in facilitated discussions on key industry trends and challenges, fostering collaboration.
- Exclusive Networking Reception: VIP guests had the opportunity to network in a relaxed setting, fostering partnerships that will drive the energy sector forward.
Key takeaways from the Event
- Energy security is the TOP priority: With demand for energy only increasing and existing resources in depletion, continued exploration is key to future security, hence the many new projects in development across the Philippines, particularly in the Mindanao region as outlined by MENRE.
- Investing in the Philippines has never been easier: The DOE is working on several initiatives to enhance the accessibility of Philippine assets for foreign investment, including petroleum data declassification and free access, and amending guidelines on awarding petroleum exploration contracts.
- Transition will come through Gas: Rystad’s research and insights indicate gas and LNG are crucial to successfully moving away from coal in Southeast Asia, and gas discoveries will be key to securing a more sustainable future.
The Energy Council is committed to fostering meaningful connections and driving positive change within the global energy industry. The Manila VIP Reception served as a platform to connect leading figures in the Asian energy sector, fostering crucial collaboration and advancing innovative energy investment solutions for the region.
Project Director - APAC, The Energy Council

Digital Roadmaps – Comparing The Steps Taken By Energy Giants
Many of the household major oil and gas companies have begun shifting their market position to better prepare for the impending climate revolution. This energy supply shift has been imagined in several scenarios, which in essence are distilled to: our current path, our stated path and the necessary path needed to reach net-zero emissions. Inevitably, the stuttering and profiteering has led us to the brink and now we, as a global society, must rely on our ingenuity to restore the planet to a stable state. Easier said than done, of course, however making this process possible is the integration of advanced digital technologies into robust, legacy mechanical technologies.
