LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
We were delighted to present the 2022 North American Lifetime Achievement Award to Gary Petersen.
Having co-founded EnCap in 1988, Mr Petersen has played a key role in growing the firm into one of the most influential private equity firms in the US energy sector today, currently serving on the board of directors for several companies under his portfolio.
There's little doubt that his outstanding contributions have earned him a place as one of the most iconic names in the energy industry.

INDEPENDENT OF THE YEAR
EQT Corporation is a leading independent natural gas producer, being the largest producer of natural gas in the United States, and are engaged in hydrocarbon exploration and pipeline transport. They have operations in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio and are dedicated to responsibly developing their asset base in the core of the Appalachian Basin. EQT is making strides by creating long-term value for all stakeholders, including employees, landowners, communities, industry partners and investors.
INNOVATION OF THE YEAR
The North American Innovation of the Year Award was presented to ComboCurve for their part in bringing Aries and PHDWin up to 2022 standards.
Based in Texas, ComboCurve is a Fintech company focused on the energy space, who are disrupting well forecasting and cash flow analysis with their flagship product ComboCurve. They have introduced the concept of probabilistic reserves and economics which is impossible in 40-year-old current desktop solutions. The efficiency gains of at least 10X using ComboCurve come from collaboration, incredible speed (30,000 forecasts & economics in ~5 min), and integrated workflows.
INVESTOR OF THE YEAR
Founded in 2012, Kimmeridge is a private equity firm based in New York and Denver focused purely on the development of low-cost unconventional oil and gas assets in the US upstream energy sector. The firm is differentiated by its direct investment approach, deep technical knowledge, active portfolio management and proprietary research and data gathering.
DEAL OF THE YEAR
The Energy Council awarded the North American Deal of the Year to Permian Resources for the Centennial Resource Development x Colgate Energy merger.
Born from this merger, Permian Resources is a leading independent oil and natural gas company focused on generating outsized returns to stakeholders through the responsible acquisition, optimization and development of oil and liquids-rich natural gas assets. Headquartered in Midland, Texas, Permian Resources is the largest pure-play E&P company in the Delaware Basin. They leverage technical expertise and operational flexibility to optimally develop and add to their portfolio of high-return, long-life inventory, enabling leading shareholder returns.
EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR
Toby Rice, President & Chief Executive Officer of EQT Corporation was awarded as the North American Executive of the Year for 2022.
Toby Rice was named President and Chief Executive Officer of EQT in July 2019, when he was also elected to EQT’s Board of Directors. Since May 2018, Toby has served as a Partner at Rice Investment Group, a multi-strategy fund investing in all verticals of the oil and gas sector. From October 2013 until its acquisition by EQT in November 2017, Toby was President, Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Rice Energy. Previously, he served in a number of positions with Rice Energy, its affiliates and predecessor entities beginning in February 2007, including President and Chief Executive Officer of a predecessor entity from February 2008 through September 2013.
